Epson Printer Not Printing? Complete Fix Guide
Epson printers are reliable but when they stop printing the errors can be cryptic. Here's the complete fix guide for Epson printing problems.
Fix 1: Run Epson Printer Reset
Turn the printer off. Hold the Stop/Reset button while turning the printer back on. Keep holding for 5 seconds, then release. This resets the printer's internal settings without affecting your network configuration and resolves many mysterious printing failures.
Fix 2: Check Epson Status Monitor
On Windows, right-click your Epson printer in Devices and Printers โ Printing Preferences โ Maintenance tab โ Epson Status Monitor 3. This shows ink levels, any error codes, and the exact reason the printer isn't printing. On Mac, go to System Settings โ Printers & Scanners โ your Epson printer โ Options & Supplies โ Utility โ Open Printer Utility.
Fix 3: Clean Print Heads
Epson printers have a common issue with clogged print heads, especially if not used for several weeks. Go to the Maintenance tab in Printer Preferences โ Head Cleaning. Run the cleaning cycle 2-3 times if necessary. After cleaning, print a nozzle check pattern to confirm all nozzles are firing correctly. Note: head cleaning uses ink โ don't run it more than 3 times consecutively.
Fix 4: EcoTank Ink Recognition Issues
EcoTank printers sometimes don't recognise that ink tanks have been refilled. After refilling: close the ink tank caps firmly, turn the printer off and unplug for 2 minutes, plug back in and turn on. If the printer still shows empty tanks, press and hold the ink button for 3 seconds to reset the ink level counters.
Fix 5: Update Epson Drivers
Go to epson.com/support, search your printer model, download the latest Epson Printer Driver. Before installing, remove existing Epson software via Control Panel โ Programs. Restart, then install the fresh driver. For Mac users, Epson drivers are available through System Settings โ Printers & Scanners โ Add Printer โ find your model in the list which triggers automatic driver download.
Fix 6: Waste Ink Pad Warning
Epson printers have a waste ink pad that absorbs excess ink. When it reaches capacity the printer shows an error and stops printing. The error code varies by model โ common ones are "A parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life". You can reset this counter using the free Epson Adjustment Program (search for your model + "waste ink pad reset") or take the printer to an Epson service centre for the pads to be replaced or reset professionally.
